How To Teach Soccer To Beginners | Everything you need to know

Boys and girls of all ages, physical abilities, and fitness levels can participate in soccer. The basic skills of the game can be learned quite easily, and within a few short training sessions, your child can start to improve and become a valuable member of the team. Once your child learns the basics, they’ll have lots of friends to play with as this is now Australia’s most popular sport for children. Those are the basic skills, so what are they? My goal in this article is to introduce you to some of the basics, along with some simple tips and drills you can practice at home and in the park to help your child develop.

Dribbling

In soccer, dribbling is one of the most important skills. In essence, dribbling is controlling and manipulating the ball with your feet as you move up and down the field. Every player must master this part of the game. If you have good dribbling skills, you will be able to…

  • Set up for accurate passes and shots in the goal
  • You need to get around your opponents
  • When you are being tackled by an opponent, maintain possession
  • The ball should be moved quickly from defense to attack

The art of dribbling involves many different techniques and tricks. For now, let’s focus on the fundamentals.

6 Tips for Effective Dribbling

  1. Use the ball gently, and avoid heavy touches.
  2. Protect the ball from defenders by keeping the ball close to your feet.
  3. To move the ball quickly up the field, use the leading edge of the same foot to touch it gently and keep it close as you gallop. Avoid alternating feet when galloping.
  4. You can keep track of what is happening on the field or in front of you by using your lower peripheral vision.
  5. You should vary your dribbling speed as you move up the field in order to keep defenders off balance.
  6. To defend the ball, keep your body between it and the defender. You can prevent the defender from touching the ball by using your arms, legs, and shoulders as shields.

Related post: Fact about the Football Team

In this post we have discussed about the fact of football.

Football was invented after rugby rules were modified to accommodate gameplay, but during its advent, it was played more like soccer: players could only kick the ball and hit it with their hands, hence the name of the game. As opposed to rugby, football allows three tries to move the ball five yards.

Dribbling Exercise:

It’s important to develop coordination in both feet so you’re confident no matter where a defender attacks or where you want to move the ball. Dribbling in and out through cones using alternative feet is great for building soft touch on both feet.

Step 1 – Line up six cones.

Step 2 – Move the ball between the cones with one foot from one end to the other. Using the other foot, pass it back and forth between the cones.

Step 3 – Start slowly and gradually increase speed. Keep the ball close to your feet and make lots of small touches

Step 4 – Once you have control of the ball, keep your vision ahead while keeping the ball in your lower peripheral vision.

Step 5 – Alternate between weaving in and out of all 6 cones using only one foot after a few runs.

Passing

Any team will value your ability to pass quickly and accurately to a teammate. A good passing technique is a key to good passing. For beginners, the side-foot pass is the easiest, most accurate, and best pass to learn. Here are some tips for passing side-foot properly.

  • From the base of the big toe to the central area of the heel, use the inside of the kicking foot.
  • Ensure the kicking foot is at right angles to the ball when making contact.
  • You should face the ball squarely in the direction you want it to go
  • Strong and sturdy knees and ankles are essential
  • Over the ball, keep your body weight
  • Maintain a steady head and keep your eyes on the ball
  • Maintain balance by extending the arms
  • You should aim for the middle of the ball
  • Keep the kicking leg moving in the direction you want the ball to go

Passing Exercise

This one is great as it can be done with one person or two. I will explain to one person; if you have two people simply put the cone in between the two players.

Step 1 – Set up a cone with a ball on top, one meter from a concrete wall (this is so you don’t have to chase after the ball. If you have two players, replace the concrete wall with a person and place the cone in the middle, with each player starting five meters from the ball.)

Pass the ball starting at 5 meters from the cone, aiming to knock the other ball off. Knocking the ball off the cone is worth 2 points, and hitting the ball but not knocking it off is worth 1 point.

Step 3 – After you have 5 points, move back 5 meters and start again. Repeat this until you are too far away to regularly hit the ball.

Receiving

Passes can come at different heights, directions, and speeds, so you’ll need to be able to control the ball using your feet, knees, and chest when receiving the ball. With your first touch, you want to gain control of the ball.  Here are some tips for executing ‘The Inside of The Foot Receive’, the easiest receiving technique.

  • On the non-receiving foot, face the player passing the ball.
  • The receiving leg should be raised slightly and turned at the hip so that the ball is at a 90-degree angle to the inside of the foot.
  • When the ball arrives, ensure the receiving foot is relaxed so it can absorb its pace.
  • Aim the inside of the foot in the direction you want the ball to go as the ball hits the foot.
  • After this first touch, try to keep the ball close to your feet

Receiving Exercise

You can pass the ball into a multi-rebound net and it will bounce in various directions for home practice. The ball will return at different speeds and angles, which will better simulate a game situation. The drill involves setting up your multi-rebound net, passing the ball into the center, applying the tips above to trap it, and gain control before passing again. You can make it more fun by trying to complete as many passes and traps as possible in a minute. Make it more difficult by altering the distance from the net.
